Owning a dog for the first time, you may not know what sort of training your dog may need. Depending on the age of the dog, you may have to decide on the types of training you need to provide to have a happy relationship with your pet.

The first type of training a puppy needs is behavior training. Behavior training would include good behavior around other people and dogs, properly housetrained, and having reasonable leash manners. There are also some minor training to make the dog a pleasant companion and not attract unwarranted attention from the public.

The second type of training is obedience training where the dog is trained to perform certain tasks. The traditional type of obedience training are heeling, sit and fetch. The dogs are trained to bide to commands and perform their tasks accordingly. But this is not an easy thing to do especially if you have no guidance. Surfing the internet can help. You can also get pointers from friends who have some experience training their own dogs.

The third type of training are for performing specific tasks such as herding, hunting, search and rescue, leading the blind and drugs searcher. But for the ordinary dog owner, training the dog for recreational activities such as catching frisbee, flyball and so on.

It is important to keep in mind that there are many methods of training for each type of behavioral change and obedience training. But the one most important is definitely dog toilet training. This is one training that needs to be done while it is still a puppy. The task to training older dog to not relieve itself in the house or at inappropriate places will be quite daunting for the unexperienced. That’s a different dog training tip altogether.
